As in care and protection cases, legal representation by CLCM lawyers in CHINS proceedings is dictated by court assignment. CHINS matters are filed by parents, school officials and/or police who allege that a child/youth is repeatedly refusing to obey the reasonable rules and regulations of a parent/guardian; repeatedly runs away from home; willfully misses school (more than 8 days a quarter); and/or repeatedly fails to follow the rules of the school. Legal representation in these cases also is governed by CPCS/CAFL; therefore, Children's Law Center attorneys who handle CHINS matters have been certified by CPCS to do so.
